The list of shipwrecks in 1871 includes all ships sunk, foundered, grounded, or otherwise lost during 1871.

January

Theodore Engels ( Belgium): Driven ashore at Maurities during a gale, later refloated and returned to service.^[1]

Megaera ( Royal Navy): Sprang a leak on a voyage from South Africa to Australia. Beached at Île Saint-Paul, French Southern and Antarctic Lands on 17 June and declared a total loss.

- Barks Awashonks, Carlotta, Concordia, Elizabeth Swift, Emily Morgan, Eugenia, Fanny, George Howland, Henry Taber, J D Thompson, Massachusetts, Minerva, Monticello, Navy, Oliver Crocker, Paiea, Roman, Seneca and Thomas Dickason; Brigs Comet, Kohola and Victoria; Ships Contest, Champion, Florida, Gay Head, John Wells, Julian, Mary, Reindeer, William Rotch ( United States): All lost or abandoned in the Whaling Disaster of 1871. Minerva discovered intact in 1872 and returned to service.
